Unfortunately, popular belief among tropical fish hobbyist, diskus fish are hard to keep as they always seems to be sick. Compare to others, diskus fish last longer before they die when they are ill from sickness. If you were to visit the sick diskus fish again later, you would see them still sick in the tank. This gives the impression that diskus fish are always sick.
Unlike others, diskus fish gives you signs that they are ill earlier so that you can apply proper medication and they will get well. If you have kept other tropical fish, probably you have experienced that they die suddenly without any warning. Diskus fish do not die easily; they will tell you that they are not feeling well. Once you find the actual cause and give them the right treatment, more than 80% to 90% of the time, they will get well.
